As a coder and as an auditor/project manager on various risk adjustment projects, one of the tools I have never liked using is the spreadsheet mapping tools that our clients give us. Don’t get me wrong. I do love spreadsheets and use them frequently for many tasks. They are great for doing complex calculations on data or even just storing data.
They are not so great when you are trying to find specific data. The Find function in Excel can be a bit clunky. If you have the wrong column selected by accident, you won’t find the code you are looking for, even if it does map. It’s also pretty easy to be on the wrong year tab for the date of service you are coding. These things lead to problems with coding accuracy.
In addition to being a CRC, I also like to dabble in databases and other IT stuff. Yeah, I’m weird like that. So in my spare time, I took data from CMS and other government sources and compiled it into a single database. Then I built this site as a user-friendly way for HCC coders to find the mapping information they need quickly and reliably.
Over time, I intend to add other useful tools, resources, and information for HCC coders, so stay tuned!
